Chequer Tree Camp is a memorable and life changing week for children, giving them opportunities to grow in confidence, meet new people and meet with God.

We value the contribution of volunteers who help make camp possible. We are looking for people who are passionate about working with children. You will need to be a committed Christian, actively involved in your local church. You will spend the week supporting, encouraging and inspiring children to explore Christianity. You will need plenty of energy and enthusiasm to get involved in all aspects of camp and be a positive role model. You will work as part of a team, and together we will see children’s lives impacted.

Each year Chequer Tree Camp welcomes a variety of new volunteers as well as others who have been many times before. We are very grateful for our enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, and we look forward to your application. Come and join us for a week of fun as we seek to inspire the next generation to explore Christianity!

FAQ's
What will I be doing?

Before camp: There are a number of tasks to do in the months leading up to camp. If you would like to get involved in the preparations, please let us know.

  • Creating the set design for the stage.

  • Workshop ideas and prep.

  • Advertising camp in your church or local area.

  • Nearer the time mainly in June and July, there are many jobs we need help with such as making badges, putting packs together, shopping, preparing and packing resources and equipment.

At camp: There are a variety of roles to fill including, full time, part time, and one off’s, there is something for everyone! We will discuss these at your interview. If you would like an informal chat about anything below before you apply, please do get in touch. Roles include:

  • dorm leaders

  • cooks and kitchen assistants

  • technical support

  • worship leaders

  • speakers

  • running workshops

  • activities coordinators

If you are interested in any of the roles before camp or at camp, or have something else to offer, please get in touch with us at bookings@chequertree.org.uk.

What information will I receive?

Before camp, all volunteers are invited to the camp preparation day on Saturday 12th July. This is a fantastic opportunity to get a flavour of what camp is about, to get to know other team members you will be working alongside, to receive specific information and training relevant for your role, to have a tour of the site, and to ask questions. You will get a volunteer’s pack containing all the information you need, and everything will be explained to you.

How much does it cost?

Everyone at The Family Trust is hugely grateful for the valuable part our volunteers play, and without them, camp simply could not happen. Inevitably, there are costs incurred, mainly for your food (all meals are provided) and accommodation, so to help with those costs we ask leaders to contribute £50.00.

Where will I sleep?

We need a certain number of volunteers to stay overnight to adhere to child: adult ratios. You will sleep in designated rooms onsite. You will need to bring your own airbed / camp bed and bedding. Not all volunteers will need to stay overnight at camp, we will discuss this with you at your interview. Those not required to stay overnight can come at the start of the day for the volunteers morning meeting at 7am and leave in the evening.

What will I need to bring?

What to bring to camp

  • Clothes and footwear: suitable for the unpredictable weather, running around a lot and probably getting wet during games and challenges. (Please remember - nothing revealing, no inappropriate slogans, no skirts, no short shorts).

  • A wash kit, sun cream, hat etc.

  • Either a camp bed or single air mattress, a pillow, sleeping bag or bedding.

  • Cash, if you would like to buy items in the shop (£10 will be plenty).

  • A refillable water bottle and an insulated travel mug if you want to carry a hot drink around with you.

  • Your volunteers pack (you will be given this at prep day).

What not to bring

  • Games consoles, hair straighteners, other electrical items.

  • Aerosol deodorants or any sprays, as these set off the fire alarm system.

Camp is so full of energy and so rewarding.
